Trevor Torres
All of the love of Music.
Mr. Torres has been the Vocal Music Director of Moreno Valley High School since 2023 and has continued to teach and share the joy of choral singing with his students daily.
Originally from Bakersfield, CA, Mr. Torres began studying music at the young age of 9 and from that year on had developed the drive and determination to become a music teacher. He began his music studies in percussion, and shortly began to take private lessons where he found the lifelong goal of teaching music to others. He would go on to pursue multiple instruments, all percussive, saxophone, high brass, and cello throughout his pre-undergraduate music study. He would later become deeply connected with a piece of music featured in a Winter Guard International (WGI) performance by Rhythm X, an indoor percussion ensemble from Columbus, OH. This piece was titled “Lux Aurumque,” by Eric Whitacre. Captivated by the beauty of choral music, Mr. Torres turned his life towards the study of choral music.
Mr. Torres attended Vanguard University of Southern California (Costa Mesa, CA) where he would pursue and earn his Bachelors of Music Degree in Music Education. During his time at Vanguard University, he would work directly with the Director of Choirs both at the University and at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.
Mr. Torres would pursue his graduate studies at Chapman University, earning his Masters of Teaching degree Summa cum Laude, with an emphasis in music and special authorization in choral music. He would spend these years studying from incredible choral music teachers in the southern Orange County region.
Mr. Torres is extremely passionate about the whole student process and strictly believes in a students first educational policy. As the director of vocal music at Moreno Valley High School, Mr. Torres daily works to train and embolden the next generation to love and appreciate music, both in the professional world and as a hobby or pastime. During his time at Moreno Valley High School, he has continued to earn Unanimous Superior awards in both performance and sight-reading.
Mr. Torres is the founder of the Moreno Valley High School Vocal Music Conservatory, a program geared to train students for a career in vocal music. This program is guided and ran similar to that of an undergraduate college music program, with students having a required course load for completion, ensemble credit requirements, vocal lessons, jury’s, and recital requirements. This program is the first of its kind in the Moreno Valley USD and is growing in numbers annually.
Mr. Torres is married to his wife, Lindsay. Together they live with their cat, Puck. In his free-time, Mr. Torres can frequently be found in the kitchen developing new recipes for food and beverage, working on side projects, reading literature to advance his choral music studies, or deeply entrenched in some new video-game.
